Marciano Running for Governor

Georges Marciano, co-founder of Guess Inc, is running as an Independent for California's governor position. He will be competing against ebay founder Meg Whitman, current Los Angeles mayer Antonio Villaraigosa and San Francisco mayor Gavin Newsom.

Politics is the next phase in a colorful stream of various occupations for Marciano. Five years after arriving to America from southern France, he and his brothers founded the retail house of fashion. Guess, where he handled merchandising. After selling his shares in the company, Marciano pursued commercial real estate and collecting art and jewelry. Now he seeks a spot in the political field.

I'm not sure if a fashion mogul is going to be taken seriously. i know a lot of actors have become successful politicians (e.g. Gerald Ford, our own Arnold Schwarzenneger) but there's always a lingering thought in the back of my mind: "but he's an actor.... can we really take him seriously? Is he for real?" I think it's a lot easier to candidates like Villaraigosa much more seriously than Marciano because they have made their careers as politicians and the public knows them as politicians, not as fashion designers. But I guess we will see....

Gottschalks’ Liquidation Sale Begins Today

Gottschalks’ liquidation sale beings today, Thursday, April 2nd, at all of its 58 stores in California, Washington, Alaska, Oregon, Nevada and Idaho.

It's $280 million inventory will be completely liquidated, including store fixtures and trade furnishings.

Founded in 1904, Gottschalks competed with other major department stores such as Kohls and JC Penny. However, sales have been consistently declining and it filed for bankrupt protection. Although it had a pending deal with a Chinese buyer, Shandong Commercial Group General Corp, it fell through and Gottschalks was forced to close down its operations.

If any of you have giftcards, might want to cash those in before they become worthless.

CopyCatism

Givenchy sandal 583989 from their 2008 spring/summer, made famous by the likes of Heidi Klum and Vanessa Hudgens, is now trickling down to the masses. It's unbelievable how similar the designs by Guess and Nine West are to this French couture house.

Givenchy 583989 $695

Guess Holda $110

Nine West Jamie $79

Guess does a slightly better job at imitating the Givenchy version becuase it mimics same three straps across the foot while the Nine West's Jamie adds an additional strap. Also, it seems neither of the copycats have as high a heel as the original. Nonetheless, both are fairly great copies, and one would have to do a double take to really notice the difference.

now, if only i can get a hold of these Givenchy Birdcage booties in a size 7...

Shoe Trend Alert

i'm really feeling the tough-vibe of gladiator-inspired, cage heels.  if it's got platforms, then all the more to more to fall in love.  a hot and key fashion piece right now, it's been popping up everywhere from everyone's forever21 to not-so-everyone christian louboutin.

Forever21 Ricarda Platform Stilettos $28.80

Christian Louboutin Platform Cage Sandal $995

the forever21 sandals are actually not that bad.. but these two Guess ones are the pair that i've been keeping my eye on...

Guess Money $115

Guess Naga $99

i know neither of these two are exactly the "cage" style.. but i like the more delicate rendition of this trend that is manifest in these two shoes.. i can't wait until they go on sale!

Hot Tartan

we all know plaid is one of the biggest trends this fall/winter season
look.co.uk did a short article on D&G's winter fashion show way back in july and the masses have been starting to feel the trickle...

i didn't really pay attention to the whole plaid trend until korean celeb, hyori, wore a bright red D&G tartan blazer jacket to the KMNet awards last week.

that jacket is HOT.

The Intro that doesn't Want to be an Intro

i'm too inspired by my favorite and only tv show that i watch, stylista. fashion is a dangerous area to swim in - waters are too turblent and the currents are always changing. but the view is beautiful and there seems to be a resonance with something inside me. i love the constantly changing nature and the fast pace in which it runs. i love staying on top, knowing what's coming around the corner, and predicting the next "it" item. i also love critiquing and analyzing what could have made an outfit better, or why an outfit works. if i could pick any career right now, i would gladly give up my ambitions of being a lawyer for my dream of being a stylist. right now, this is my only creative outlet for this suppressed agenda.
